overall price is 407pounds(including shiping), although some parts are not from OcUK so don't want to post competitors pages here.

What do you think? I will be using this machine mainly for competetive gaming, and games i'm playing are more CPU dependant than GPU (Source engine).

For an extra £25 you could get the i5 3570k. Considering the games you play are more CPU dependent then this would be a much better choice because you can easily overclock it between 4-4.4ghz safely.

I want to spend as less as i can, and if i would be getting a K chip, that means i would need a better mobo, which would add up to about ~100pounds more, and i don't want that. My goal now is to get best performance for around 400-420 only re-using my old HDD.

No need to get a better mobo, it'll run fine on that board just won't overclock. Few more quid for 300Mhz more is worth it imo.

have you got anything else you can re use ?

if you seen any benchmarks maybe drop the 6870 to the 6850 and use the difference to push the processor up to the 3550/3750K (you won't overclock it but it is 3.4 compared to the 3450 3.1, and if possible at a later date upgrade the mobo to overclock it).

There's option of re-using my old GPU (8800GT 1gb), but don't want to do that.

Yea, i've seen benchmarks of 6850 and 6870 and i think ~+20-40FPS in games would benefit me more, because sometimes i do play different stuff not just source engine games :D

I had a 6850 before my 580. It played bf3 on medium/high settings comfortably at 1680x1050 and the card can be overclocked easy enough.

What res monitor do you have/ do you play at?
