Hey, I'm looking at building a gaming PC for my girlfriend.
I tend to make big posts so I'll make some lists just to make it easy if you want to skip the life stories.
What I want it to do for me..uh.. her!:
Questions:
Spec:
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM - £155.99
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5830 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £89.99
Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** *LOWEST UK PRICE* - £72.98
Antec High Current Gamer 620W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply - £62.99
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/4GX) - £34.79
Cooler Master Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black - £35.99
Total: £465.32 Including delivery.
What could I change there for savings/little-no loss of performance? - I have a spare hard drive around here but if you're a genius and you can save me enough money to slip in a half decent sized SSD that'd be awesome but its not essential, it'll be a later upgrade.. maybe next payday.
I was considering a 5770, as thats what I have in my machine and I'm probably gunna upgrade my own to crossfire as its not done me wrong so far. though as a seperate subject, I'm probably going to upgrade to a similar spec you see here (mobo/cpu/ram only tho)
So I'll leave it in your capable hands and thank you in advance!

What I want it to do for me..uh.. her!:
- Play L4D2 / Killing Floor / CoD / Counterstrike Source / Everquest2 / SWTOR - Those kind of games as close to max graphics as possible.
- Around £400-£450 budget, it'd be nice to be as close to the £400 as possible!
- Quad core probably makes the most sense?
Questions:
- i3/i5/i7 - How much difference in performance is there? From what I can gather.. i7 if you're rich but i5 is sufficient as the performance boost/cost ratio of the i7 at present is a bit steep in the fps>pound conversion!
- Is it worth getting ram above 1600mhz right now? I mean, its pretty cheap at 35quid for 4gig.. my 1333mhz id doing me just fine.
- I think that I'd probably want a "K" cpu for the overclocking possibilities.. I like to tinker with it all,I think its nice to have that ability just to prolong the purchase! Or at the very least a good mobo/cpu for getting a good speed out of
- I'm a little sketchy on motherboards these days, theres just so many I don't know whats good and whats not. P67 > H67 for games right? What am I looking for in a mobo?
