I was looking for a keyboard with that lit up in the dark, looked good and was comfortable to type on. Glad to say that I wasn`t disappointed.
No driver CD per se, but instructions with download location for drivers are enclosed within supplied pamphlet, in my case I chose Vista x64. No software is available, nor needed for that matter.
USB cable, microphone and headphone leads are about 1.7m long and are gold plated:
So we`re fired up and instantly the whole keyboard lights up. You can choose your preferred colour and brightness (settings are retained after a reboot) via the touch screen panel to the right top of the keyboard:
Also on the same touch panel are the backlight on off toggle:
And volume, mute and shuffle functions for media player:
One of the pleasant surprises I got was how well defined the keys are in the dark. You read about backlight bleed and how you have to wait for a short while to focus in on keys when looking at them straight straight after viewing a bright monitor. This really isn`t the case with this keyboard, the keys are instant and sharp. Colour intensity is pretty even throughout with only areas around the left CTRL key, right Windows key and num keypad 0 slightly brighter than the rest of the board but hardly worth mentioning to be honest:
Oh, and a full size Enter key:
There are 5 multimedia keys down each side of the board. Pity these can`t be reprogrammed. Buttons are very well made and easily read. Buttons to the left side are Browser (pictured), forward, back, new tab, refresh page and favourites:
Buttons on the right hand side are sleep (or whatever you choose to do via Windows power options) My Computer, search, email program, media player open and calculator:
The board also comes with 2 stage height adjustment and detachable palm rest. User preference is needed here, there is no right and wrong way to use the board, whatever is most comfortable.
The whole board isn`t what I`d call huge. The main keys are 19mm between centres. Pictured against a 20" monitor:
On the whole, I`d recommend. Construction is of decent quality. The palm rest clips are quite femur though not load bearing. The board however has absolutely no rocking action on a flat surface and extended typing sessions are effortless. It isn`t marketed as a gaming board but copes tremendously, though no Windows key disable. I do however feel that it is overpriced at £40, though I wish had comparative Logitech, Microsoft and Razer boards to justify that statement
