I posted a few weeks ago regarding my first build, after some thought and advice i have come up with the following spec:

If anyone can just confim that all of the components will be compatible and if ive missed anything off that would be such a great help.

Thanks

Everything is compatible but I would get another rig if I were you mate:

It should overclock better with higher rated memory and I included a cooler with it (£55). You can spend the saved money on a better SSD if you want, or save it for another Radeon 5850. With little changes you can get 2x5850 right away with this budget.

I would bet my back teeth that two GTX460 1GB in sli is better than 5850 crossfire.

So look at doing that.

Thanks guys, i love the look of the two 5850s in XF, i might just have to stretch the budget to that and the intel SSD.

are you sure the 460s will be better than the 5850s as this benchmarking shows different?

those are only single cards

nvidia cards have better scaling in SLI than ati cards do in XF so the 460's out do the 5850's like 470's out do 5870's

Why the Intel SSD? The Crucial C300 64gb is much better. I would definitely go for SLI 460 they perform better and Crossfire has a lot of driver issues.

This is a ****ty comparison tbh.

It's possible that two 460s will scale better, haven't considered them tbh.

Intel SSD will be worse than this OCZ driver (e.g. slower) afaik.

I'll dig up some reviews on SLI 460s vs Xfire 5850s just now. Know about only one from Hard OCP.

@up

That Crucial drive has some crappy writing speeds? I know the Marvell controller is good though.

ok could someone quickly knock me up what the SLI 460 setup would look like.

My knowledge on SSDs is limited sorry ill go for the Crucial C300 64gb

GeForce 460s SLI:

Crossfire 5850s perform roughly equally to a single 5970. It's your choice whether you want SLI or Crossfire. Both setups will overclock greatly too.

No, the motherboard will offer you similar features and won't lack any performance over its more expensive brother.
