Black mesa is probably the way to go. I was one of the few that actually liked the Xen levels in Half life, but i was proper fed up with it by the end in black mesa, as its quite a bit longer i think. Its awesome, i played black mesa when it was first available, before it was on steam. it blew my mind!
The OG is still cool though if you can suffer the graphics.
