So, I have been scratching around for something to do on my PC lately.

I did some stupid things, like buy EQ2 (again!), which lasted all of 5 days, Resub Vanguard and that lasted a week, was almost tempted to download WoW client again.

And then... it came to me!

I have this nice steam library, I'm going to revisit some classics.

I have a lot better PC these days than I did when half life 2 came out, so the past 3 nights ive played through that. Max settings, the engines been updated, much higher resolution screen, gaming bliss :p

I'm currently downloading episode 1, 2 & then I notice the serious sam HD deals, so in my current frame of mind it's a no brainer to get get them for 7.5 euros :)

I'm just wondering if its a sign of the times? A few of my gaming buddies are all in the same 'rut' right now. Are a lot more of us seasoned gamers waiting for the "next big thing"? (i'm 38 btw, gamed for 25+ years).

If your also waiting, what are those few key elements of gaming bliss that will revitalize your gaming thirst?

Matt.

i tend to lurch from one thing to another - get really into something so hammer it for a while, then bore myself with it so move on to something else. as i've got older i have less patience, so if a game or solution in game is not immediately obvious, playable or relatively simple to learn then i won't bother with it. i'm not really that bothered about finishing stuff either, so atm I'm playing elemental: war of magic, I've started about 20 games and not finished one yet!

the game i'm waiting for now is CiV5, I'm going to play it most of the weekend I think. after that it's Dead Rising 2 - but I want to play a demo first (i loved the original on the xbox) then after that it's Diablo 3. and maybe some more LOTRO, or Titan Quest, or Just Cause 2 or.... :D

I here you on Diablo 3 ;) It's that and Guildwars 2 i'm excited about for the future.

What I now have lined up, unless some other steam deals come along and throw a spanner in the works are in no particular order:

HL2 episode 1, 2.
Company of hero's, opposing fronts & tales of valour.
serious sam hd 1 & 2 (just purchased).
Finish off last little bit of monkey island: special edition.
Star wars Knights of the old republic (play it through evil this time).
Titan Quest imortal throne (finally get to the end of the expansion).
Frontlines@Fuel of war (finish it off, I think I got close to the end).

So, I guess I still have plenty to get on with, really :p

Been playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Age Of Empires 2 a lot recently. I know they aren't mega old but they're great fun.

Seems to be happening with a lot of PC gamers atm

In a similar situation as the OP. I picked up Left for Dead 2 a while back in a Steam sale. Never played it...

Then the week before last I woke up and midnight and couldn't sleep. Booted up the PC and thought, why not, lets give it a blast. I was up until 4am screaming at my screen (learn't very quickly that witch's are not meant to be shot etc...). Now am playing it with a couple of mates.

Awesome graphics, brilliant level design... bah, I love it, it's great.

Basically - I recommend giving it a blast :)

I think it is the sign of the times. It's not just the PC that's suffering, the games industry has been hit hard by the global recession. I was chatting to some console gamers at work the other day and they're experiencing the same thing. They have 1 or 2 games on the horizon which they're looking forward to, but the number of A+ releases have declined in the last few years.

Personally I'm fine. I play arma 2 and l4d2 multiplayer, and have just got civ5. Oleg Maddox is supposed to be releasing a new flight sim soon, and I'm looking forward to new vegas as well. Even if nothing else decent comes out, those 5 games will last me a long long time.

As far as revisiting old games...... I bought company of heroes on a steam sale a few weeks ago. Seems to have a crapload of missions and stuff, so that's going to last me a good while as well.

Deus Ex and System Shock 2 for me. These are the two I replay every so often just to remind myself of how good games can really be :(

Really looking forward to episode 3 though. Valve releases generally seem to be strong, if a bit erratic. Otherwise, I have very little to look forward to.

(although Alice 2 looks to be quite something)
