Reviving slow laptop.

hi every one i'm trying to speed up my old-ish vaio k415s but the problem is once it was repaired and they used parts from a k315z so it makes a different recovery disk so i was considering a clean install with xp sp3 and the drivers from sony website will this work or will i be in schtuck because of the secret recovery partition.

How much Ram has it got? I'd max out the Ram then do a clean install of the OS

Hi thanks for the reply the current ram is 512mb but i think it is ddr1 i was going down the ram route but my main concern is this hidden partiton and clean install.
