Revving whilst stationary

Was sitting in traffic today, in 1st gear, clutch fully in, handbrake on and foot well clear of the accelerator.

Heard revving and looked at the dials to see that it was revving up to about 2000 rpm and then back down to 1000k 3/4 times.

Anyone know a possible cause?

Haven't seen it happen before or since.

Idle control valve possibly.

Give the ICV a clean and at worst replace, usually the reason for random idling.

Can't remember tbh. Took a glance and then all around me started moving. It's that hectic on the road to college in the morning it's not good taking your eye off the road for one moment.

ISCV as said, or if its pulsing probably Lambda/oxygen probe.

Try disconnecting it.

Normally do, but it was coming on to a sloped bridge where the traffic is rarely completely stopped for more than 5 seconds.

if it was first thing, could be the choke..

although I've had the idle control valve do this too (was very irratic), a quick clean and it was sorted
