I wonder if any of our resident "sparkies" could give an idea what sort of price I might be looking at to get the upstairs lighting circuit rewired in a 3 bed detached.
Reason for asking, a couple of nights ago the spotlights in our bathroom started flickering on and off, then wouldn't work at all (good fun trying to remember whether the last pull of the string was on or off...). Went out this morning and bought/fitted three new GU10's in case the cause was a blown bulb in the circuit.
Initially when switched on still didn't work so I went up to have a rummage in the loft. Frankly the wiring is a mess and seems to have been jerry rigged by a previous owner, including a spur to the power shower taken off the upstairs lighting ring. Apart from jiggling a couple of wires, checking a couple of joints were tight and lifting a couple of boxes off the insulation which might have been pressing on something I didn't do anything but the lights now work. So the fault could be anywhere on the circuit, even the switch which also has a load of wires running into it.
So if it does it again, I'm really in the purview of professional assistance, would probably get them to take the spots out and put a fluorescent tube in while they're at it.
Would I be looking at £100's or £1000's to get this done?
