So get the 288 out & Blast around Nords & revel in Sim racing of the Highest standard

is rfactor realistic as the best driving simulator ever that was released yesterday?
(gt5)
i kid you not some are claiming that on the console forum

Having a bit of trouble with that mate but I'll try to answer what i think is your question.
For starters No serious Sim racer mentions consoles in the same place that people are talking about PC Sims.
As far as which one is best that is very debatable & Totally down to the Individual. You have a choice of 2, Either RFactor or LFS S2.
Don't get me wrong I love Forza2 & PGR4 on my sexbox but they are Arcade racers not Sim racers.
I have No experience of GT5 but if console i would dismiss it just the same.
My personal fave is RFactor because of the many mods & unlimited tracks you get for nowt, Literally if you cannot find a Mod & a track that suits you on RF then there just isn't one that will ever suit you :p
I have been involved with the game for ages now & even got my copy for Free off the creator Gjon Camaj
Anybody that wants to challenge what i write here needs to go drive Nords in a 288 & then come back to chat ;)

I should add that the Demo for this game should Not be tried. It is a very basic early version of the game & has been left to stagnate.
Gjon prefers people to buy the game & then download a few mods & try the game out as it is for us who own/play it. There is a Money back guarantee that is Rock solid for those that do not take to the game.
This way you get to try the game properly with an endless supply of mods & tracks. The demo is just the basic game with No mods at all & really doesn't represent the game well at all.
So if you are tempted to purchase the game then do so in the knowledge that you can quite easily get a refund if you are not happy with it
I will also be happy to recommend Mods/Tracks & help in any way i can to bring more people to RF.
Not that it needs it mind you as i can go on any time of the day or night & select from any one of a number of full servers playing varying mods & tracks.
Also there is a Massive League scene around RFactor with competitions/Leagues & the normal hustle & bustle of a busy online community.

Mods.

Tracks = over 400 :p

It plays perfectly single player but you do have to train the Ai on some tracks & Mods.
Basically you just treat it like a race meet with Praccy & Qually then the race. By the time race time comes the Ai are up to speed with the track.
It is Highly recommended to test drive said Mod & track single player before attempting an online race. I set up an Ai race & have a thrash about & tweak my car in then go online & race.
Don't know how much a fresh instal would take up I only know that my RF folder is MASSIVE with all the mods & tracks i have added.

There is also a Real feel mod out there that runs well with Certain mods.
My favourite all time mod by the way is the Caterhams, to me they feel just like driving a motor. Unfortunetly they are not to popular online as they are hard to drive. I think i was top ten in the world in those when the RF league was up.

Don't waste your money if you don't have a wheel mate. In all my years i have only been beaten by one guy who uses a controller & he is just a Freak :p
It's true to say though that this is a Complete Sim racer. You need to get used to the cars then set them up then get used to tyre wear track temps etc & then on top of all that you have to get them round the track whilst 20 - 30 other dudes try to do the same.
Very very satisfying though if you podium a race against Quality opposition.

@darwin.
The biggest problem with the game is exactly what you mention. So many damn mods & tracks it's hard to find people to race at the time you want to race with the mod you want on the track you want.
I use RACE@RFC to overcome this problem. There are two championships run a week & they are listed on this page & has links to what tracks & mods will be used.
If you download the mod & tracks for that Champ you can race at ANY time & be included in the weekly stats, Now how ****** cool is that. These servers are always busy & of course everybody has the right Mod & the right 5 tracks for the Champs. It works really well in bringing people together.

So should not even bother if I dont have a wheel?

Not unless you are one of these young'uns that grew up with a controller in your hands :)
Some run controllers mate quite happily & swear by them but i cannot tell you to go buy a game that i feel needs a Decent wheel if you haven't got one.
You should be able to pick a 2nd hand MOMO up the same as mine quite cheap these days as the new G25 is the one everybody wants.

See I'm totally confused now, super confusion has set in now I have realised the amount of mods and tracks

:p This is what happens to All people that browse around Rfactor. Like i said though with the RACE@RFC feature added to that site it is much easier to sort a decent bunch of mods & tracks out.
Thinking about the controllers now that the 360 is fully hooked up to the PC that may work even for me, not that i would try it of course but i honestly don't know. The brakes are fully adjustable as is everything else on the car, I myslef always reduce brake pressure to avoid locking up when slamming into tight bends.

With a wheel it is natural to me. The MOMO is Superb with Excellent feedback & the pedals have springs built into them for resistance, I also play in my socks for more feel as well. I can even answer my phone whilst racing or slurp my tea or have a smoke.
The whole set up is awesome & the only kicker is my chair is on wheels so every now & again i get some movement which is as freaky as you can get when you are hairing round Nords in a 288 :p

Just download the demo then & give it a spin before commiting to a purchase. It is a shadow of the game but at least you will know whether you could deal with it via a controller.

Shame you didn't live close you could have come round for a test drive. I don't give test drives often as when i stick my mates on even though tehy haven't even got a PC or been near a game i cannot get them off it

I should also add out of fairness that i have met Lots more players of LFS that use controllers. On RFactor only 1 or 2 use a controller & most have wheels where as on LFS you meet quite a few people using a controller.

I'd download Both demos & have a Blast, It's a crap Satruday anyways just go for it & have some fun & post back what you think later as it may helps others that only have a controller.

What is the best mod?

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!! :p:p:p

Can, Worms, Everywhere.
Check out that link with the mods all listed & go through the Hall of famers then decide yourself mate is the best answer i can give you :)

Personally I would say

Caterhams.
288's.
Aussie V8's.

The GTR series is a good one but is spoilt by inconsistency's whilst driving caused by bugz in the coding. Shame as looks & sound wise it is Awesome.

You won't be able to play online with the demo of RF mate but you can play online with the demo of LFS.
Like i said the RF demo is pants & i don't think i have even run it myself. The steering can be altered though by reducing the turning circle of the wheel in options.
It's really only a way you can find out whether you have any chance using a controller & how it runs/looks on your system.
The wheel on my screen only moves as much as the wheel i am holding so perhaps it is something to do with using the controller & its over sensitivity

Give LFS a bash mate i know quite a few play that using a controller no probs at all. I have LFS myself it is a Fantastic driving game. You can even play the demo online

Did anybody download & try the new Ring
Snow, Rain, Autumn :D Seasonal versions Dudes an they are fantastic, Although i have to admit to wrecking my 288 about 288 times trying to get round in the snow :p

Ok guys I couldn't really comment before but after yesterday i can now confirm that the BMW E21's are a Must have mod. Straight up there alongside my favourites the E21's are about the most fun you can have in an office chair holding a plastic steering wheel. Gorgeous to drive & those that can drive irl will have a blast in these. Older gits like me who are used to RWD will have even more fun.
Some mods just suit you & this one suits me down to the ground, Perfect mod & like i said a Must have.

Also another Must have mod the PCC 07. I took these out for a test yesterday & had some Amazing races. Pretty good feel at default but i did pack the front end to 1.0 & drop a bit off the rear wing, Other than that Just get the front end to turn in & the rest comes naturally.

The best thing about the recent releases is the improvement in handling & feel has meant for much better, closer & cleaner races as the cars handle much more predictably therefore the online racers can keep them online lap after lap.
Yesterday i spent 10 laps at Lienz Long bumper to bumper with 3 other guys fighting over 1st to 4th with a field of 20 odd racers chasing us down. At the end of Lienz Long after 10 laps only 1 racer out of over 23 DNF & that is at Lienz for **** sake.
The great handling these new mods are bringing just breeds confidence & with confidence the racing gets closer & closer but also gets cleaner.
What this means to Sim racers around the world like me just cannot be expressed in words.
Just download it for yourselves & Feel it

In my opinion it's the Best Sim racer available on the PC.
With the mods listed in this thread it takes it to another level.
