Been using the Megane mod for Rfactor for too long now and fancy something new.

What current mods would you recommend for playing on public servers? Can't see that many other than F1 MMG that seem to have that many playing online.

Any suggestions? What you racing?

EDIT: stupid title typo

Compared to a lot of mods it's a blast to drive, specially around the 'ring.
Good sounds too.

Caterham is still the best mod of the lot if you ask me.

All good mods, which I have, but can't seem to find any public servers online running these mods with decent numbers of players. Am I missing something? Are they called something else under vehicle type when looking in server list?

Cheers.

I'd say you need a wheel (or at a push a joystick, lacks on trail braking though) to play any of the sim racing games 'properly' (not to say you can't with a mouse, but to get the best out of it etc)...

rFactor is ok, a little bit better than lfs (imo), although I disliked that you basically pay for an engine and have to fiddle with mods to get anything even vaquely decent...

iRacing is better than both (again, imo), but obviously costs a lot more :p

Hmmm, this iRacing thing looks pretty cool. But wow, $20 a month?

porsche super cup 2008 is really specififc to the league im racing in here open to all though http://www.tyka.net/leagues/PSC/index.php

rFactor is more league based racing than public based IMO. If you want good pickup races you should look into getting Live for Speed. I own both and they're both fantastic in their own ways.

iRacing is excellent as well but the pricing system and racing structure makes for poor value if you ask me.

LFS for pick up races.
rFactor for leagues.

F1RFT 2008 (v3 & v3.1 too)
&
Megane cup.

Agreed, not really done LFS...but rfactor is pretty league-centric. Annoying cos I love the game, but dont have time to faff about with a league these days :(

iRacing has moved the racing sim on and I subscribe. I have most of the cars and all of the road courses and it really is a very good simulation of driving a car, better than both rFactor and Live for Speed. Most of the rFactor mods I have tried are not that good (though free to no right to complain really) and bar one or two I think they feel detached as an experience which iRacing doesn't. LFS has an artificial feel to it but the drifting is fun!

If you want public racing GTREvo isn't too bad. I've not found too many wreckers recently, you just need to take it easy on the first lap as there are a lot of pillocks who won't drive carefully at the start of a race - once your past the first lap or so (or first section of Nordsclieffe :p) it is great :)

Keep meaning to try out rFactor myself.

I never really got into LFS and rFactor, although they weren't bad they never gave me the same feeling, as if I was actually in the car, that GPL gave me and got my hooked originally on sims,

iRacing however takes the GPL feeling and makes it 10x better, but yes there's the cost, $20 for a single month with limited content, monthly goes down obviously if you sign up for longer periods (and you get credits back), but even then it's very expensive, I've got all the cars/tracks now (both road and oval) and I don't regret it, I just regret starting motorbike racing irl as it's starting to take time away from iRacing :p
