Rhino killed in zoo

We have no duty other than to our own survival, if that means that certain animals and insects are useful to us... then so be it, we have a duty to protect them for our own benefit.

The Rhino is useless in this regard, which is why there isnt such a massive furore over it... unlike perhaps Bees. When we can sustain our own environment, they're all useless to us beyond sentiment. That simply is reality. I'd rather we have as many different varieties of wildlife as possible, but its humans first and always.

You really think that or just arguing in the thread, which i understand because sometimes i "take the dumb opinion" too to get debate going.

This Rhinos life was worth easily 100 trash humans living in Squalor in any 3rd world desert or hole. Certainly worth more than the people that killed it.

Every time I read something like this I think of the virus quote from the Matrix film.
We are the most intelligent (apparently) species on the planet, yet we seem to persist in doing as much as we can to devestate the planet and the other species on it.
I can't think of any other less intelligent (apparently) species that is so destructive.

The existence of larger issues does not preclude the importance of smaller issues. This is a logical fallacy purveyed by the simple of mind.

Yet if you ignore the larger issues enough, the smaller ones won't matter.

We are amazingly bad at forward thinking and it's going to make a lot of biospheres empty before the end of the century. You think that the hundreds of millions spent on saving a few mammals was worth it, i believe it should have been spent elsewhere. There is also a cost to human labour and innovation as well when we have bright minds wasting their time.

Just when you think "Perhaps folk will learn & stop this..."

"JOHANNESBURG (AP) -- South Africa's government is moving ahead with plans to allow a domestic trade and limited export of rhino horns, alarming many international conservationists who believe rhinos will be more vulnerable to poachers after a record slaughter in the past decade."

This will make it even easier for poachers/dealers to pass off their stock as legit, one way or another & just further the slaughter.
