Hey guys,

Been shopping around for a new TV for when I moved and after much deliberation I settled on the Sony KDL 40" W905 A - it's for a small room and to be used for Xbox One and Movies.

This TV gets great reviews for picture and low input lag, I had been looking at the Samsung F8000 this time last year when I was deciding which to get and chose the Sony for the low input lag.

Fast forward to the present, I've moved and ready to buy, go to buy and there's no W905s left! They don't do the model anymore.

All i've found is a few Richer Sounds stores down South who each have one left, an Ex Display model in each case. I've called all the stores and one in particular got back to me, very friendly chap and said he'd go away and connect it up and check it over for me.

He called back and said it's in A1 condition, everything present and picture looks great, one small scratch on the stand.

My question is: is it likely this TV has been on for hours and hours in the store and heavily used or do you guys think I should go for it?

It does come with a 5 year guarantee and it's a decent price for what was a top of the line TV last year.

I've researched and researched and cannot come up with a suitable 40" out of this years line up that has low input lag. My man cave is fairly small and I've had a 37" LCD for the last 7 years so don't want to go bigger than 40" really.

Any input from you guys is much appreciated! Thanks all!

P.S. I live in the North East and it's going to be a 5 hour drive for me to go collect this TV on Monday so I need to be sure before I go :)

It's for £699.95, I believe they started out at around £1100 and ended up at about £900 towards the end of the year.

Do you mean Image Retention when you say IR?

Cheers for your reply mate, I'm so confused as to what to do.

Part of me is thinking I should just settle for a 42" which are widely available this year in the w705 or w829 but their reviews are never as good on picture quality, there again there are plenty of people saying good things about them on this forum and others.

What to do ....

W829 gets my vote every time, since I own one.

Do you game on it mate?

I may just go for one of those as I can get one 5 minutes away :)

How do you find the size of it? I'm used to 37" and I'll only be sitting 5-6 feet away so can't go too big.

You happy with the picture and the input lag for gaming?

It ticks all the boxes, picture is lovely and no discernible input lag that I can feel.

I have the 50" as my bedroom telly and couldn't be happier.

I bought an ex display from richer sounds. It has been perfect and I got a 5 year warranty for free too.

I got my kuro from them as an ex display model a while back... It only had 200 hours on it and I think it's the best tv I've owned

Cheers guys, really appreciate your input, makes me feel a bit better :)

Looks like I'm doing a 10 hour round trip on Monday!

I did ask if it had been heavily used over the last year, he said it won't have been a year, a few months max but in that time it will have been put on each morning and left on all day, 7 days a week. But as you said, it does come with a 5 year guarantee so I don't need to worry too much about that.

I have to say, Richer Sounds may well be the last good (real) customer service I'll ever experience. Every store I've telephoned have been so friendly and helpful and the one guy inparticular who has helped me out, in the store I'm going to has been outstanding. I'll be taking the time to write a letter of commendation to the boss for him (if everything is as told :P) as he deserves it.
