Ricky Gervais: Science

I thought it was pretty reasonable, the problem was all the subjects he talked about were ones he'd discussed before, it was just slightly different material this time. I still had a good laugh but honestly if you've followed him through all his radio, podcasting and other tv works, you've probably heard all the observations and anecdotes before.

Loved it. Up there with Animals. I can see why people get tired of Gervais but I haven't yet and I doubt I will anytime soon. I can also see why people think he's full of himself; it's a tough act to balance as there are about 7 billion judges of comedy in this world.

"His" joke about the Christmas goat was lifted straight from Karl Pilkington's podcast comments from a few years ago.

It was either a dead giveaway that the podcasts are or were very much scripted and written by Gervais et al (I can imagine there being notes for possible talking points... but entirely scripted I wasn't sure about) or it just shows a lack of imagination on his part to come up with some new jokes for his "new" tour. Either way, it makes me a sad panda. :(

By far Ricky's worst stand up gig, the first half was absolutely dire and he took the whole inflated ego gag way past the point of funniness. The second half he talked about some different topics and was actually pretty good.

I think it's more likely that he simply decided to use an anecdote that had been previously talked about in a podcast, I don't think it's anything more suspicious than that, who knows, maybe he even asked Karl if he could use the bit before he went on tour with it.

Love the Office, Extras and the 3 stand up shows before this. Turned this one off before the end, something didn't click with me this time and I just ended up getting bored/annoyed.

Disappointed with it.

I watched it today and enjoyed it - maybe not as much as Politics etc but maybe that's because I now know what to expect :)

I'm not criticising the overall show - had it's moments but no proper belly laughs / stitches like some of his earlier work or XFM podcasts :)
