Ricky Gervais: Science

It was either a dead giveaway that the podcasts are or were very much scripted and written by Gervais et al (I can imagine there being notes for possible talking points... but entirely scripted I wasn't sure about) or it just shows a lack of imagination on his part to come up with some new jokes for his "new" tour. Either way, it makes me a sad panda. :(

Every stand up reuses material over and again. If you watch panel shows a huge number of comments can be seen in the same persons stand up. Peter Kay has pretty much built a career on a single routine.

Karl Pilkington clearly hams up his personality 'quirks' several notches when he's being filmed or recorded, regardless of whether he's explicitly told to or not.

He's also an actor to some degree because in the miscellaneous videos of him that get filmed, Karl repeats thoughts or conversations he had years ago on the radio/podcast as if he's thinking of them on the spot.

I'm a fan of Ricky and Karl, but this stuff about Karl being 100% authentic gets tiresome :)

ON TOPIC: Haven't seen Science yet. Will have to get it. A subtle thing Ricky does that always cracks me up is ending all of his working-class-guy impressions with a loud sniff.

Sure, but up until now Ricky has done well to keep coming up with new stuff. Whilst I enjoyed Science, it wasn't up to his usual high standards.

Hopefully he's just been spinning too many plates over the last 12-18 months.
