Not sure whether this should be in General Hardware or Software but here goes.

Spec Acer 7711 PC
Q9300
8gb Ram
Radeon 4850
Vista 64bit

All been working fine for a good few months until 3 weeks ago. The pc is now randomly shutting down while on very low load i.e Internet surfing, a bit of word etc. Virus check and Spybot Search and Destroy don't turn anything up, Vista itself seems fine (as well as Vista can be)

However while on mid load the pc will run rock solid stable!?!
Playing CSS for hours and it won't shutdown. Internet surfing for a few minutes and the pc will shutdown at some point

Have run Memtest to check for dodgy ram and that seems to be fine, in fact i've found a little caveat where running an instance of memtest in the background will keep the pc alive while surfing the net. If memtest is turned of the pc will shutdown at a random interval.

As above Vista install seems fine with nothing malicious seemingly running.
If it was a hardware fault (psu/cpu/overheating) i would have thought it would have crashed during CSS or other games.

So any ideas as this has me a bit stumped though potential still could be something hardware related (motherboard?). Or maybe something like cool and quiet erroneously shutting the pc down?

Rather not re-install Vista at this stage, it's not my pc though it would eliminate that it's a software related problem.

cheers
