I'm decorating the front room and need 2 problems solved before I can proceed.

1. Do I paint the skirting/facings first or do I paint the walls first?

2. I have a cake of chocolate and a packet of crisps to get through during lunch. Do I eat the chocolate first, or the crisps?

There's a right way to do things and I'm relying on GD to come up with the goods here.

Ceiling/coving first - walls - skirting.

Crisps now, chocolate for a snack later when the flavour of the crisps has gone away.

Interesting, my thinking was skirtings first because if I get paint on them from when I do the walls then it'll wipe off with a cloth. If I get paint on the walls when doing the skirting then it won't wipe off.

Work top down. So ceiling. Then walls. Then skirting. When doing the ceiling and walls I tend to paint the edges and corners first with a brush, go over them with a mini roller to stop the brush marks being seen, then use a big roller in the middle.

I'd open the crisps and chocolate, place the chocolate in the crisp bag, roller it as flat as possible with the big roller, then munch both at the same time.

Makes sense, especially the little mini roller.

I'm close to reporting that to a Mod, you monster.

OP should blend the paint, crisps and chocolate and use the mixture on the walls and skirting, any remainder can be eaten.

Also, if the crisps are salt and vinegar then they must be in a blue packet. Never trust salt and vinegar crisps in a green packet.

Also have a few beers because painting is so boring and you have an excuse for when your lines are not perfectly straight.

That's exactly how I was taught. Then I got fed up after decorating a couple of houses, so now I get a painter in. :D
