Critique - My application form , Please.

What better place to get constuctive critique and/or ROFL than here.

I'm applying for a job in the local library , i meet all the academic requirements etc. But the dreaded any more information part is still to be attempted.

I'm 39 and despite working for 19 years ( off for 4 years sick ) this is only the second application form i have ever filled in ( the only other one was in 1984 ).

The role requires ;
"Good written and verbal communication skills. The ability to demonstrate a common sense approach to problem solving and the ability to research enquiries"

"The ability to work constructively with people, as individuals, or as members of teams and groups.Co-operative – able to work with other library staff. Resilient and dependable, able to work systematically under pressure.Considerate, friendly & helpful. "

My main concern/difficulty is in the phrasing/wording , if any one could offer pointers , i will be eternally grateful.

Here is my 1st attempt ( Spelling and Grammar will be checked prior to applying ):

" My current employment requires an understanding of peoples needs and the ability to adapt and cater for those needs. A friendly and patient approach to supporting students is vital and the encouragement i give is proven in the success and qualifications gained by the students.
As well as "one-to-one" tuition, i have given workshops to groups of people introducing the basics of computing and there various applications and uses.
As the college covers a wide range of courses i am required to assist on many different levels of learning at the same timeon an individual and group basis.
My previous employment demanded a high level of Administrative competence and accuracy. Working within the Commercial Department and reporting directly to the Commercial manager the creation of on time reports was essential.
Others duties within my employment involved communication with customers to assist in any problems , or answer any questions or queries in a timely and proffessional manner.
My work within the Design area of the company required a creative and practical approach to solving a clients packaging requirements whilst working to financial constraints and time deadlines.
My main focus now is to continue in a role where i can work with the public and provide a high standard of learning support, service and information , an area i am both qualified and motivated to deliver in.

Outside of work my main personal interests include Computers and Photography, i also enjoy Reading, cookery and Music. Socially i enjoy Pub Quizzes and playing Skittles as i am the captain of a local team.
I also hold a current CRB check. "

Thanks for reading this far. :D

As i said before , i need some help. So don't be shy , I wont take offence.

Not sure you need the bit about the Design office as it's not really relevant. It might be worth putting something like you find it easy to pick up new computer software as no doubt their system will be completly computerised.

Another bump ( sorry mods)

I understand it's a pretty boring post but can anyone offer some advice ?

Mark.

I'd be careful of the random capitalisation of the beginnings of words, I am sure you will spell-check like you say but it will not pick up on those.

What position do you hold in the college? You might be able to detail that further and its relevance to the job.

Just for my curiousity what is Skittles, is it better known at 10-pin bowling?

Position in college is a Support Tutor giving one to one tuition to people with learning difficulties or anyone who lacks to confidence to use a computer ( i.e people who think there is a mystery button that you could press and the world implodes , and dispell that myth. )

As for Skittles , it's like 10 pin but using 9 pins and smaller balls ( :o ) but involves a lot more skill and alcohol :D
