Rifle/sub question

half of it is ill informed 'discussion', hes got a fair point. Aload of people here with ignorant opinions.

While I do agree half of it is probably ill informed, I think there is no reason to bring that to the table on a forum, where by definition, half of EVERYTHING posted is probably ill informed (I would wager more than half :P)

there is every reason to, whats the point in taking part in a discussion with people who have no true experience, only unjustified opinions.

Really it depends on the surroundings for the gate, I personally cant see the problem with the SA80.
Also if firearms are being dished out for the gate then its likely theres some kind of fortified area for the guard to stand, so a short range weapon such as the p90 wont put the guard at risk, he can sit in his little hut while you take as many shots as you want with pretty much whatever you want, hes still safe.. to 'attack' the gate you have to get close, well within his range.

Yes, but what I am saying is that is the case for everything posted here, if you honestly post questions on here expecting 100% accurate responces, then you are just plain naive.

i wouldnt expect accurate responses, id expect some naivity and some suggestions.
I wouldnt expect the amount of armchair experts we have here.

Yes, please do not comment on anything you do not have real world experience with, such as any other religion than your own (or atheism), any other political choice than your own, hell anything that you do not have first hand experience, as that is not what DISCUSSION is about!

Personally I have handled some assault rifles such as the FN FAL, AK47 (And had a look at Steyr AUG A1 without getting to fire it :() and numerous shotguns as well, so I think I can make a reasonably educated guess on other ones.

You can comment, just don't write as if you genuinely know what you're talking about. Feel free to discuss something you don't understand, but I don't see much point in it myself.

I wouldn't even be so generous as to say half are ill-informed (By the sounds of it you're going to have had one of, if not the most experience with assault rifles). You're more likely to find it's the heavy majority who have NO experience with automatic weapons what-so-ever (Unless this is the one thread that happened to attract every member of the Armed forces on OCUK :p). Let alone enough experience to make an informed judgement call (As you're all making it sound like you're doing) as to the suitability of sentry guard weaponry.

Honestly it's halrious. Thread should be subtitled "Armchair experts only". I may have to give it 5 stars.

What's the point indeed.

You can discuss anything, just please for the love of sanity do it from a position of realism. Sounding like you're informed on a subject you're obviously not is just sad. It reeks of Internetz.

*Disclaimer: This isn't aimed at everyone who has replied here, obviously. I use 'all' to describe whom my comments are aimed, not every user in the thread.

thank you :)

Even if it did attract all the OcUK Armed forces the majority of us still havnt got the foggiest about anything bar the SA80.
There are a few on the forums that do shoot, and are firearms enthusiasts, but from what I have gathered previously none probably have experience with the full array of weapons suggested in this thread.

What I also find interesting on this topic is that it only seems to come out when weapons are involved!

I think he meant an SA80 in one hand and an SLR in the other :p

Lil too much COD:MW2 fetish there methinks....

Ahaa...thanks ;)
Lol, i'd topple sideways if i did that.
6.8lbs v 9.6lbs (iirc)

Gimme a gpmg at 24lbs to balance the alphaness. I was dumb enough to score the equivalent to marksman level with that thing. Then ended up lumping the ****** 23 miles across Dartmoor for the pleasure of being a good shot......ggrrr!

Anyways, the old fashioned SMG would be good at a sentry post imho, as it would surely more involve more close quarters than distance.
P90 with its rate of fire could spray the whole landscape for 50m in front. Not sure if thats a good or bad thing. :p

I wouldn't mess with someone guarding a gate if they were holding a samurai sword. In fact a flaming samurai sword would be optimal.

Ha! :D Serves you right... hope you palmed the link off to the rest of the squad though?

Why is everyone in here talking like they have actual genuine real experience with any of the guns mentioned outside of PC gaming? Am I missing the joke? How many of you have even fired any of the guns you're talking about? Even once? Someone get 5 minutes on the range in Texas with an M4 and now they know about Assault rifles? :p

personal experience right here boss.

i can't speak for anyone else in the thread but i can confirm that i had hands-on experience with almost every weapon in the thread.

Ha! Have you ever fired one of these?

'Fraid not, in 1945 I was as far away from nagasaki as I could get. Still, pretty neat eh?

That said, I can tell you how it works if you'd like :p

I would want something like this

hk416subcarbinetfb.jpg

or this

Something you can stick in to a car window easily. Would be loaded with green tip 5.56 ammo with the steel core so it has a better chance of penetrating the wind screen or doors.

Also another guy on a tower or platform with a m249 and barricades/choke point set up.

P90 is a great guard weapon - depending on the ammo used it packs a massive short range punch/penetration and can be effective(ish) even out to 400feet - your rarely going to be dealing with anything beyond that on guard duty. You also have a ton of ammo to lay down fire with - as someone mentioned your probably be trying to stop something thats feet away from you as quickly as possible.

A well maintained L85 can put down some accurate firepower to atleast double the range of a P90 but even with SUSAT IMO 650meters out its not going to be doing much.

Personally if I had a choice I'd probably be taking a G36C.

For PDW the MP7 I believe is highly regarded for short range stopping power but not something I have experience with personally.

Please carry on sitting in your hut while I fetch my .50 cal AMR and maybe a thermal scope :D but yeah the likelyhood of such a situation is incredibly slim. Similiarly you could use a javelin, mortar or milan jobby on the poor gate guard.
