How come you don't see the OICW any more..
In the case of base guarding, you are primarily stopping vechile threats from entering the area. If someone shoots you from 400 yards, then bad luck, but the base is still safe. If they miss, you retreat and sound alarm and chaps with bigger guns come running.
You need someone manouverably, and swift to sling, a high rate of fire helps too.
Why is everyone in here talking like they have actual genuine real experience with any of the guns mentioned outside of PC gaming? Am I missing the joke? How many of you have even fired any of the guns you're talking about? Even once? Someone get 5 minutes on the range in Texas with an M4 and now they know about Assault rifles?![]()

I have also examined some home made **** (seriously!!)How come you don't see the OICW any more..

patroling the grounds with the standard issue french FA-MAS weapons
Please carry on sitting in your hut while I fetch my .50 cal AMR and maybe a thermal scopebut yeah the likelyhood of such a situation is incredibly slim. Similiarly you could use a javelin, mortar or milan jobby on the poor gate guard.
lucky youTurns out it was a 300m range but still good fun.
Got to blat off a few rounds on an ex-police Steyr model 69 .308 sniper rifle, a .223 rifle loosely based on the M16 ( limited to single shot ) and an old Mosin Nagant bolt action rifle used by Soviet snipers during WWII which has left a decent bruise. The old 7.62x54 round that the Nagant fires has a fdair old kick on it.
i've not had access to a range for quite some time
A P90 is only used in CQB as its range is limited. It's aiming to replace the MP5 with its larger clip and lighter weight, and more rapid rate of fire. Btw it sucks in CODMW2
or just call in ac130 or chopper gunner
the AK amazed me with how light it was and the Thompson with how heavy![]()
Boris The Blade said:Weight is reliability, but if doesn't fire, you can always hit him with it.
had a go with the early version of the sa 80 so can compare to the FN the problem with these, as they found out in Ireland was it will go through a house no problem, hence the police are mostly limited to lower velocity wepons.really??? when it comes to the l85a2 only stoppages i ever suffer from are due to damaged magazines mainly the lips at the top.the L85 and L86 series... ...frighteningly unreliable, amazingly hard to reload

You do realise that a thermal scope cant even see though a sheet of glass never mind a wall? Your javelin, mortar or milan attack on the sentry would be pointless as the sentry is there to protect what he is guarding. By attacking the sentry you are fullfilling his role, which is to be the first line of defence, to delay an attack and give warning of an attack. So in truth it doesn't realy matter which firearm a senty in using so long as he is alert. Alertness is the sentry's real weapon.
actually, the P90's lethal all the way out to 200 meters or more, which is far longer than the range of the puny 9x19mm used in almost all MP5s. additionally, the P90 is a PDW, not a submachine gun, they're for different purposes. furthermore, the P90 is made by FN and the MP5 is made by H&K, two entirely separate companies, so the P90 isn't replacing the MP5 in the slightest.
in actual fact, the UMP was intended to replace the MP5 because it's cheaper, lighter, more accurate and fires a more modern round (.40S&W)
lastly, faster rate of fire is a bad thing, it means that you have more recoil (so less accuracy) and you waste more ammo faster.
