Hi,
First post here, as I have only just bought a Rift, and am planning my setup, to install before Christmas and really want some advice.

i have bought a 3rd sensor and cctv style mounting brackets to allow me to mount the sensors on the wall or ceiling for a room scale setup. In working out where to try positioning the sensor mounts I’m not sure how far to the left or right the sensor covers. What looks like the ideal place to mount the front sensors are maybe 6 inches further towards the centre of the room than the floor play space I have. Does that mean I will not be able to get tracking in those 6 inches of floor, or is there reasonably coverage to the sides of the sensor. Just not sure how the coverage works, in terms of degrees of coverage,

Obviously, I’m going to want to angle the sensors down and towards the centre, and am worried that I’ll lose tracking to the left and right of the play space. With the front sensors where I’m thinking of putting them, they will already be 2-2.5m apart, does that give me any margin to be further apart if necessary.

Sorry for all the questions, and I know that I will need to experiment to get tracking set, but just wanted some guidance to help me at least position the mounts in roughly the right place, so I can plan the cable runs, which I am planning to hide in the ceiling/wall, if possible, and I have bought 2 active usb 3 extensions, along with the usb 2 extension Oculus sent with the 3rd sensor., as it will be used in a living room setup.

i hope my rambling post makes some kind of sense, and I appreciate any help or advice anyone can give.
Thanks
Duncan

Thanks for the replies guys.

Imginy, in your setup, do you get tracking over near the window, or the console table. I’m thinking on placing the brackets on the side of the projector pelmet, back at the wall, marked in red in the photo, with the sensors hanging below the pelmet. My usable floor space boundary is probably, having looked again, roughly in line with that left side of the pellet, give or take. I’m wondering if I will lose tracking at that side, as I’ll need to angle the sensors inwards, or whether my 3td sensor, which I plan to put on the back wall, roughly in line with that left ‘pelmet; sensor might cover the ‘slack’

I appreciate any thoughts on my potential location in the photo.

I’ll try sensor bounds Jonny, thanks for the heads up.

Was planning to put the 3rd sensor on the back wall, opposite wall to where the 2 sensors are, and roughly in line with the left front sensor.

Does that sound about right?

Thanks for the advice guys. I got the 3 sensors installed, with cabling mostly hidden, which will keep the wife happy, and in the main tracking is working well throughout the play space, with one exception.

When seated in the couch, in the seat shown in the second picture, I cannot lean back, or The wall appears and I go outside of the tracked area. As both our couches are against the walls, does that mean it is nit possible to track that seated position for games like ‘Bridge crew’ and I need to use a separate gaming chair, or do you think there might be a way to adjust sensors to get coverage to the back wall.

The 2 front sensors in the first photos are about 9ft high and are about 10ft from the back wall, where the back of the couch is. I have used ‘sensor bounds’ for the initial sensor adjustment and found it great, I just wanted to check whether what I’m trying to do is impossible before trying to adjust again, in case I throw the general tracking, which is great for most of the play space, off again.
