Had a Rift CV1 since its release, just upgraded to the Rift S ( last week from OCuk - excellent service as usual ) and it worked flawlessly. That is. Untill i rebooted the day after.

USB not connected.

After looking up i see a lot of people are getting the problem with only 1 fix. Unplug the rift. Reboot. Plug in the USB - wait for the software to show connected and then plug in the Display port. But dont reboot!! Or repeat. lol. WTF! ?

Also, many are complaining of worn out USB and Display ports by doing this. So. Anyone with a perm solutioin or should i RMA. go back to my CV1 while i can get hold of a G2.

evga rtx 2080ti ftw3 ultra

silverstone 1000w

CPU + ram are overclocked, ive tried removing and still the same. Ive removed other USB devices and also bought a powered USB block. Same result.

Don't get me started on this, Had the exact same issues with mine when i first got it, it would fail to connect every single time i rebooted it and took hours of re plugging and unplugging randomly to get it to work again at which point it would work flawlessly once it connected until i rebooted and i would have to do the same thing over and over again. Oculus support were no help, The only thing that solved it was installing an aftermarket usb3 card and the funniest thing is the first usb3 card i tried didn't work either, luckily i took a punt on another one and my rift s has worked flawlessly ever since.

The card i used that works is a StarTech 4 Port PCI Express USB 3.0 Card - 2 External & 2 Internal - SATA Power - UASP Support
and the one that didn't work and gave the same problem was an
Inateck Superspeed

I originally used short extension cables to avoid wear and tear on the ports and to avoid climbing under the desk.

My USB was fine but connecting the DP used to crash the PC fairly often until I tried the 8K Cable Matters DP repeater and so far it's been OK.
I can leave it connected between reboots, or just connect when I want to use it.
I now have 2m USB and DP cable, with the DP repeater and it's the most stable it has been in the last 7 months.

Some USB ports are better, looks like you have 4 on rear panel connected to Z370 chipset (Gen 1) and then a couple of Gen 2 connected through Asmedia Chip.
Do these both give the same result?

Ive not tried all my ports, a few ive swapped but most are taken up, mouse keyboard, x56 flight stick, hdmi video capture card that uses 1 usb also. Also have an add in USB/Sata card because i have 10/12tb hard drives connected for my media server aswell as 2xCorsair M.2 cards via pcie. Bought a powered USB addon makes no diff. Im gonna try different ports this week sometime when i get a spare hour.

I had this with my rift s too after a usb driver update. Had to try an retry every usb port on my pc eventually it got recognise been fine ever since. Also try unpluging an repluging in the wire that goes into the headset itself, you will have to remove the face insert to gain access.

Thanks for the suggestion.. i know about the headset connection - was same on rift cv1. Gonna try and sort it tomorrow, but could have made things worse as ive just bought a logitech g29 lol

I had this problem as well. The rift just wouldn't "wake up"
I ended up buying a 4 port USB hub that allows you to switch each individual port on or off. This is with the hub connected to the original usb port it wouldn't work on as well, and it now works perfectly.
(no guarantee though!)
