Is there a maximum length of cable/extension cable that can be used to run a Rift S?
At what point/length would you need powered cables. And is there specific oculus software
coding required to run the Rifts S that was not in the original Rift software?

I already have a quest 2 but it doesn't run with the older oculus sdtware. My aim is to have a mooch round the old oculus home room.

Ah I see. Good point. Another option is an original Rift CV1. Those should be pretty cheap, and they're not difficult to extend. USB can be an issue with the external sensors though.

Yeah, I still have a CV1 but I don't think the 3 sensor coverage will work over that distance.

LOL That far!!

it's just you don't need USB 3 for the sensors. So you can get 5 meters with those, rather than the 3m of USB 3.

I'm not sure if 5m is going to be long enough. Perhaps there are two ways to tackle this.

1. Hardware. I've already plugged the quest 2 into the PC with the old oculus software, but it isn't picked up.
Using a Rift S to overcome the sensor to range/distance rather than the length of the sensor cables of the CV1 or

2. Software. Deleting the relevant home files in a current oculus install, and replace them with a copy of the old home files from the old install, and then use the Q2 to have a good look round without the limitation of wires. Trouble is, I've no idea which files to move.

Well, for 1. You are going to have to buy a Rift S and two extension cables.

2. I don't think this will be possible. There is difference between how the home areas work. The only way I could think to do this, is to convert the home areas of the Rift Civ1 into a Quest 2 environment. Because you can create your own custom environment for the Quest 2. Not sure where you would start with getting the files off the Original oculus home area though.

Just did a little digging, try looking for this file on the Oculus Civ1 software com.oculus.environment.prod.rifthome.

Actually scratch that, will have to take a longer look into it. There is a Oculus Custom homes discord. You might get info or help in that. I can link it, if you need it.

Thanks, I thought the it might be possible to replace the new pcvr home files with the old pcvr files and then use VD to get the range to the pool table.
