Rig Build Help: Been Away Some Time!

Cracking - I think I may stick with my existing HDD for the storage element and save a little there but that makes the offset on the SSD cheaper!

Toxic 6950 also sounds good as mentioned earlier and it could potentially give me 6970 performance for less notes... I notice in the review it talks about setting the PowerTune to +20% - is this something people recommend doing regardless?

Hopefully going to put an order in today or tomorrow and get the first few bits of my build. The intention is to order what I can now and then some more after payday ;) Will post up a spec later today for final checks!

EDIT: Just re-read the review and notice the BIOS update that fixes the Powertune +20% thing... what do people reckon the chances are of getting a card that can be unlocked? You'd have to get an early card surely so maybe not a chance now if the OC stock is fairly new?

the toxic was only released last month so don't problems with ocuk having new stock vs old stock. the early cards thing is only true for the other models, tho there are people on another thread saying they've unlocked a couple other models bought recently(but that involved modifying the bios so risk of brick while no such risk with the toxic).

the problem with making 2 orders is you'll be paying the postage cost twice unless you have free postage(which you need a lot more posts then you currently have) or live close enough to colllect.

Thanks mate - postage a good point!

I may look at using my current PSU and case for the time being to save some money towards the GFX card - hopefully the 650W will be fine for now with the 6950. I'm just struggling to find out specifically which Antec PSU it is (can't check as at work at the moment and typically got to take it out of the machine to see the label on the other side!).

It's just not great on the cable management front with the Antec case - may have to look at doing a better job than before and properly cable tying things out of the way!

Also just occured to me I may need to invest in a WiFi card as my current MoBo has it built-in with an enternal antenna that screws in. Unfortunately I can't hard-wire easily (until I move house in a year or so).

Any recommendations on solving that one? Should I go for a card or invest in Powerline type adapters?

650w will be ample for your needs unless it's got very weak 12v 'rails', being an antech should be fine(may even be good enough for xfire) unless it's a chep generic brand or as said has weak 'rail's a 550w will be good enough for a single 6950.

with the money saved from not getting the case could look at a better CPU cooler than the gelid tranquillo, the 2 top air coolers are:

or liquid cooling http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-078-TR&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

slightly cheaper option http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-078-TR&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

the ram suggested is back upto £60, couple others on offer tho ~£40

or if you go the h60/h80 route http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-078-TR&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

Sounds good to me on the RAM / cooler front - though most of your links are for the cooler? :)

I'll try check on the Antec tonight and do some research - I'd rather splash out on a new PSU if the one I've got has got weak rails. Not had a problem so far with the 5770 but want to be sure it'll hold up and not cause problems...
