Rig detecting card ok, but not SLI

Aye i'll look into some ghetto mods :D Pretty sure its not the psu most reviews say the psu hardly makes any extra noise even at 750w

Pretty sure it's the PSU fan thats spinning up, I still have a fair bit of headroom yet so I didn't expect to spin up as much as it does.

I guess it's more to do with the heat rising through the case. Need to think of how I can cool the case down some more.

I'm fairly sure the PSU is coping fine looking over consumption figures and I've played all night!

Stock fan on the GPUs is usually relatively quiet until it hits over 60% - think mine (granted GTX470) are audiable above other case noise once they hit ~64%. Most people with 4x0 SLI have found that adjusting the automatic fan profile using Afterburner can produce more optimal results in multi GPU (with mine I took the default profile and basically shifted it diagonally upwards and left so the idle fan speed was 5% higher and the fans kicked in 5% sooner.

Think I'm going to swap out the PSU, it will still fetch pretty penny which should make an upgrade reasonable. The noise is definitely coming from here. Seems a shame, it can power it just fine >,<

Recommendations for a modern day TX750w Rroff?

Had this for a while now.

Be hard pressed to find a modern day TX750, corsair pretty much have the market pegged for affordable, reliable power supplies (AX models well regarded), lot of other makes have gone downhill with much more average units.

an AX 850 would be a superb addition.
it would power your 480 sli fine and shuts off the fan when not under load.

my two 470's are hitting 77 and 72c, custom fan profile,

Above 60% theyre quite loud but i game with headphones, above pic was taken after playing the bf3 beta. Ive ordered a pair of silverstone air penetrator 140mm fans for the front of the case, the focused airflow should help, as air has to travel a fair distance to reach the cards in my case.

Annoying that had I just plumped to an 850 a year or so back when I got this it would be fine!

I need something which will take heavy load and be very quiet

That is pretty good - gonna be hard pressed to find something that quiet tbh.

I've heard this one is pretty quiet even when pushed:

But I don't know anything about those PSUs. (A little research suggests they are FSP based units which is usually a good sign).

EDIT: A bit more research suggests it stays quiet by letting the PSU run a bit warmer than normal and being conservative with the fan, and that if you push a really heavily load through it the fan kicks in v. loud.

Then is it the PSU making the racket or the gpus, I'm mega confused now!

I honestly can't tell where it's coming from in my rig :p

GPU fans back off very quickly after coming out of a game (with stock profiles), whereas PSU will take a lot longer so if the noise cuts out very soon after alt+tabbing out or quitting a game its probably GPU but if it continues for some time more likely to be CPU or PSU fan.

I really didn't have it in mind to spend money. I'm moving house on the 21st :p

Annoying as hell that I'm about 100w away from the roof of my PSU yet the noise is letting it down and it doesn't seem like I can get THAT much improvement with other PSU's out there!

Could possibly be the CPU fan, needs investigation!
