Hey guys,
I read this forum a lot, it's given me some help in helping me put a list of components together. It's predominantly for gaming, hoping it'll run Crysis on decent settings. I've got a budget of about £600, although i've gone slightly over (includes mouse + keyboard). Is there anything you'd change? Anything you know that's better for a similar price? Thoughts would be much appreciated!

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA EP35 DS3 iP35

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHz

PSU: OCZ Stealth XStream 600w

RAM: Crucial 4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Ballistix Memory

Graphics card: XFX GTX 260 896MB XT

Hard drive: Western Digital 500GB

DVD drive: Pioneer DVR 216DBK

Case: Antec 900 Nine-hundred

Mouse: Razer Deathadder

Keyboard: Saitek eclipse II

Operating system: Windows 7 64 RC

decent setting on what res?

can you go AMD and stay within budget (phenom2 and AM2+ MB)?

if yes, it will allow you to upgrade in the future with much more ease

BTW welcome to the forum, if i had a strict £600 to spend on a new pc this is probably what i would get (had to change the case to stay in budget), this should manage crysis on high settings at 1680*1050 quite comfortably, with room for upgrade in the future (i would also get the 500W version of that psu and the mx518 instead of the death adder to balance the price).

Thanks for the advice guys. Think i'm gonna stick with Intel though.

I've just found an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33 GHz, 1333 MHz, 4MB cache on eBay, for a few quid less than that Intel core 2 duo E7500. Do you think it's worth going for? With that set up that I originally posted? Cheers :)

With the setup i posted you would be much more future proof, ddr3 support will continue for a few years more as ddr2 is starting to be phased out. Socket 775 is effectively dead now as their will be no new processors released on it, socket am3 on the other hand will have several more. AMD is the way to go with a budget gaming system at the moment, you will not be able to get a decent intel motherboard at that price.

The 720 black edition has an unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking, and if you're lucky you may get an extra core using the features of the sb750 southbridge;)
