Rig upgrades necessary?

Will post the full specs to see what you think. I believe it might be time to switch from a DDR3 build to a DDR4 one so switching the CPU, MOBO, RAM and Cooler may be necessary. In all honesty I think the rest of the system is still top notch, but i'm open to suggestion.

RIG

Gigabyte Aorus 1080 TI GPU
Asus rog Swift 1440P 144hz G-Sync monitor
Intel Core I7 4790K @ 4.5GHz Devil's Canyon Haswell CPU
Asetek 570XL 240MM Cooler
16GB Dual Channel DDR3 2133MHZ RAM
Gigabyte Z97X-SOC Force Motherboard
EVGA SuperNova G2 1000W 80 Plus Gold PSU
Microsoft Windows 10 OS

Storage Spaces

250GB Samsung 840 Evo Windows only SSD
500GB Samsung 850 Evo spare SSD
1TB Samsung Evo Gaming SSD

Peripherals

Razer Deathstalker Keyboard
Razer Deathadder Mouse
Blue Yeti Microphone
sennheiser gsp 300 Headset

Is it time to upgrade? Some of the components are really old now. I mostly use the computer for extensive browsing, video gaming most nights and rendering video files through Sony Vegas overnight. If it's time for upgrades could you recommend some of the best options? I won't go into the specific requirements unless I know what to and what not to upgrade.

You've already got a pretty powerful system, and DDR4 is very expensive..

That said it's not going to get cheaper any time soon, but I'd do some serious benchmark comparisons, if you are happy to let it chugg away at encoding overnight, then it's just game performance you'll be after. And your looking at an expensive upgrade for maybe not that much benefit.

What resolution do you game at? Maybe a fancy monitor mouse and keyboard and speakers upgrade could be more beneficial?

2560x1440P. Bought that Asus monitor about 2 years ago for around about £500. Get 60+ fps in 99% of current games + the added bonus of higher refresh rate and G-SYNC. Next step would be Ultrawide or 4K (Still don't believe 4K is worth it until GPU's crack the 60fps+ properly on newer games) speakers would be an excellent upgrade if I ever used them. I wear the headet 24/7 to reduce noise in the house. Mouse, I will definitely see to that, can do my own research on that upgrade. Current keyboard is the chiclet style, so I'm content with that. When it comes to RIG upgrades I always feel it's better to ask for opinions

I was told on the Assassin's Creed: Origins forums that the 4790K is rubbish and that I need to upgrade as it's bottlenecking my 1080TI, apparently I need a 6 core or more CPU. My usage on the game is like 98% with the temps rising quite high which causes an adverse affect on the fps in the towns/cities, it's the only game I have seen it happen on.

It might just be an issue with that particular game then.. Not all games are optimal for every hardware configuration. It sounds like a lot of money to increase performance in just one particular game.

That's just my opinion though..

unlikely bottlenecking your GPU

temps GPU or CPU related? how is your case airflow? How is your CPU usage on the game?

I'd scrap the lot. I mean 144 hz? You know there is a 165hz model now.

Ddr4 is mandatory now too. If you don't have that it is simply a no brainier.

Helpful?

I have 3 intake fans in the front and 3 exhaust fans at the back. My case isn't the greatest for airflow though, and I believe my 4790K chip is one of those that run hot regardless of what I change. A huge thread covered this topic back in 2013/2014 with many reporting the same problem. My CPU always seems to settle at about 80 on the most demanding games at 1440p ultra. On say Rocket League etc it's about 50C. As for the usage on Assassin's Creed: Origins it says 98% / 99% regularly on the CPU usage in the Towns and Cities, 80C temperatures which seems to be the norm with my cpu and the gpu usage is at 70-80% with 50c temperatures. It seems to be a commonly reported problem, even some users with 6000, 7000 series have reported simllar issues.

Is this a serious response or are you being sarcastic? I genuinely don't mind throwing money at worthwhile upgrades. Scrapping the lot would definitely be on the extreme side, even I am not that stupid.

I would keep your mobo and chip for at least another 2 years.

It's one expensive upgrade for maybe the 1 game that wants a bit of extra clock.

Would you pay £700 for that game?

Sorry it was sarcasm..badly done.

I game at 4K. I’ve witnessed zero bottlenecking by my 4790k @4.4

I’m gpu limited, which is what I’d suggest is the same more or less for 1440p!

I’m holding out with my 1080ti and 4790k for a bit longer. It just not seem worthwhile to me in gaming uses. Hope that helps

What Volts are you using? That seems awfully high to me but I’m underwater with lots of rads so my temps are more controlled.

A delid would most likely drop temps but I’m not sure throttling is taking place. The 240 rad, is it set as intake or exhaust?

Just from a quick google, I’ve noticed that some places are suggesting the fans were a bit naff, have you got the stock fans attached?
