hmmmm starting to drive me nuts.... cant quite put my finger on it whats causing it... and not really sure when it has started so system restore is a no no ... anyways would rather nail the cause for next time.

right click a folder is ok on the desktop.....
right click a program --- different story. close it .... desktop refreshes and all is well again.

its some option in the context sensitive menu of some program - but not sure which.

any ideas ?

Tyry and think of what used to be in the right click menu.

Did you install the mouse (additional) software ? Did you have stuff like winamp, winzip etc as additional right click menu options ? If so, try stripping out the software that gives you the additional right click menu options, as the package might be corrupted.

Other than that, I can only think its a virus or possibly the video drivers messing up.

nah no to virus.... or drivers.... its definately a program ... but pinpointing which one is the problem.

I have the same trouble on a pc at work, from what ive seen, its a bad shortcut someware in the same dir and windows is trying to resolve it while it tries to open the right click menu.

Yeah, I get this as well in my Quick Launch bar after uninstalling games/programs sometimes and then rightclicking down there. It's obviously trying to look up the shortcut and getting stuck in some kind of routine.

Pretty damn annoying and I'm surprised it got through QA.

find out whats running in the background, do registry cleanups e.t.c. Task manager Processors?........ and end some of them used by your username. Might be able to pinpoint it. Also depends what applications you got installed too. I would uninstall em all 1 by 1 and just see..

think i found the culprit..... Utorrent..... - I dont use it often - was grabbing some 3d tutorials.

right click to unzip > freeze
end utorrent > same file > right click = all ok.
