I have a problem when right-clicking on files (eg. .zip's, .mp3's etc) and folders in Vista 64 Ultimate.

When I right-click on the file or folder it either take's ages to load or just crashes Explorer.

There is no problem at all with right-clicking on a blank desktop or white-space in the folders.

This problem has only really occured over the last couple of weeks. I had no problems of this sort at all in the 4 months(ish) prior.

Has anyone else had this problem and/or know of any methods to rectify it? You just don't realise how much you use the right-click till it takes ages for it to work!

Sounds to me like you've installed an application that is not fully compatable with Vista x64 that has attached itself to the shell for a certain function (as a quick link for example, to scan a file or folder with an anti-virus).

Problem is, could be anything from an anti-virus, compression utility (winrar, winzip) or something like a burn utility like Nero etc.

I bet that is the problem though ;)

Try a fresh install and install your apps one at a time, until the problem re-occurs, alternatively uninstall an app one at a time until the problem no longer exists.

Thanks. I think I'll try uninstalling recent programs first and then if that dosen't work then I'll go for the full reinstall.
