When I right click on a hard drive, Windows does a partial reload apps, not a log off, not a reboot but Explorer quits, icons in taskbar disappear and reload

Any idea what this is? I have antivirus. This happens when you open Explorer, and on left where you single click D: Then right click.

If I got to "This PC" and click on the same drive with the larger icons and right click, it works as normal.

My first suggestion would be to try and check if you see the same behaviour when booted into safe mode. Might help point it to being some app/service running.

Only thing i can think of is that there is some app or something setup on the context menu which is causing it.

Have found a couple of pages suggesting how to do that:
https://www.ghacks.net/2017/07/09/remove-windows-10-context-menu-bloat/
https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-clean-up-your-messy-windows-context-menu/

First page has a link to a shellexview app which seems quite handy. I just opened it on my Win10 machine and sorted by type column and can see all the context menu options listed and can be disabled.

Open command prompt as administrator and run "sfc /scannow" - This will verify all system files and try to fix any errors it finds inc registry entries which is where I suspect a shell entry for the context menu is corrupted somehow.

Hmm that is pretty strange, I imagine then some piece of software that is still installed as something dodgy tagged into the right click but it's not registered as an error by SFC as SFC scans specifically for corrupted or missing Microsoft files and registry entries.
