I am going to ditch virgin and go with some adsl.. I have had enough of virgins download cap..

Got a few questions as i know nothing about phones or adsl..

We had a bt line something like 10 years ago when we switched to NTL back in the day, I assume its okay to reactivate this with bt? Or do they need to put a new better one in? Or do i have to ask them?

Does anyone know how long it takes bt to do things? Like if i give virgin 30 days notice, will i be able to sort bt line out in time?

Cheers :)

Edit: Checked on sam knows, how my exchange was setup.. Picked a good time to look into this as:

O2 / Be: Enabled as of 01/07/2008 :D

You'll order the line and BT will have to activate it and charge you £125 just to activate it :p

BT only charged £25 for reactivating an existing phoneline in this property, but if yours has been left disused for a year different charges may apply.

It is a bit steep, but after 10 years your old line will be totally disconnected and that's what they'll charge. However you're in luck as BT are currently running an offer where you can get the line installed/activated for £30 - you just have to go for an 18 month contract and also the terms state you have to make 10 chargeable calls per month.

My house had a BT line present but it had been disconnected years ago. BT still insisted on charging me the £125 (or £30 when I mentioned the deal - the guys I spoke to on the phone didn't mention it until I read about it) so good luck getting them to budge on that ;)

Yeah it's a slight pain but that's exactly what I'll be doing :) Well, I think I'll leave it first and see if they say anything about me making zero calls.
