Ring Pro Transformer Help!

Hi - I've just bought a Ring Pro doorbell and installation has been easy enough, the only problem is that the transformer in the box stopped working and we need to buy another (today or tomorrow morning hopefully). The issue I'm having is that "normal" transformers don't appear to fit.

In our fuse box, we have copper spikes that need to slot into the transformer and I can't find one that will accommodate the two spikes needed. I also don't understand the technical name for it which is hampering my search.

I've got photos but am having issues attaching them as they are on my laptop and so don't have a URL (if you could tell me how to do it, I can update this thread). Miraculously, the Ring transformer does fit! Ring can't get me a transformer until next week so I'm in a bit of a rush.

Please can you help? Thank you.

We didn't have an old transformer that would work because the video doorbells need more power than a standard bell. The one supplied with the Ring Pro just had "Ring" and no other markings. I've searched for transformers 230 to 8-24V but I can't find one that fits the copper spikes. They all fit the din but not the spikes!

Forget what voltage the Rings are.

This might work?

Unfortunately I don't think it will because it doesn't seem to have two entry points for the spikes. This is the issue I'm having. Thank you for taking the time to help though.

Did the old Transformer get removed from the current position in your image?

Problem is - you would need to insulate one of the copper connections as these are both live connections.

Edit: Looking around it looks like transformers that fit in consumer units (just general transformers) would need to be mounted at the end on the DIN Rail and hard wired internally from a separate MCB.

I could not see one that fits on the live terminal.

Thanks RJC. There has always been a space there. The transformer for the old bell isn't in that breaker box but underneath it and is a completely different set up. It won't provide the voltage required. Unfortunately there isn't a space at the end of the Din rail. This blank spot in the middle is where you're supposed to put any extra transformers you may need. It's a complete nightmare. Ring have promised to send us a new transformer but not till next week and we have guests arriving tomorrow so it just looks awful with wires everywhere. I guess it's not the end of the world though. We can limp through to next week. Appreciate your comments and help.

Just use one of these. You don't mount them directly to the copper spikes as it would be unfused then. Normally you would cut the bus bar short (copper spikes) and run a live cable form one of the MCBs (5a lighting) and the other wire from the neutral bus bar.

I'm going to be a Grinch I'm afraid. You admitted you don't know the correct technical terms.

I'm guessing you don't have proper test kit and may not be aware of the correct safe isolation procedures to take before working in your consumer unit. And I think the only sensible advise to give is that you should get a qualified electrician to do the work

My husband is a qualified electrician (but not in the UK). He installs sound and lighting systems.

Hi Dandle - thanks for your reply. We actually bought that exact transformer (which is the one that doesn't fit on the spikes). My husband toyed with the idea of fitting it but not using the copper spikes but we were a bit worried about doing that. Thank you again. I'll mention this to him.
