So last year on the Dec 19 2022 I got this -

Your credit card is expiring

Ring

Hi Dave,
It looks like your payment method on file is expiring soon, and your Ring Protect Basic subscription is about to renew on 26 December 2023 in the amount of £34.99.

Please update your payment information by 26 December or you’ll lose access to all your Ring videos and the extra security features of your plan.

However they still took my money.
I did a bit of digging around and realised in the RING App you can tie your Amazon account to your Ring account - bugger.
I immediately unticked that box so it wouldn't happen again and to be honest I needed the subscription for 6 months until I got the new doorbell.

This year on Dec 19 2023 I get the same above email however I double checked my old Ring account, my card isn't attached and neither is my Amazon account but they've just taken £34.99 out of my account.

How have they done this?

Look up recurring card payments, they can go through after the card has expired/changed number.

Exactly this.
Just rang RING and even though on my account it says Card Expired July 2022, because of their automated systems I get an email telling me a week earlier but the system will also try and get the money on the subscription date.
At that point the bank should say no but in this case the bank is still letting money transfer off my expired card.
Mrs is now contacting the bank about it and Ring have took me off their systems and sending a refund
