Okay, so just got home from a friend's gig and I've got that blasted ringing. I was wondering what the science behind it is? I get that it's from loud sounds and will probably be gone in the morning. But what's actually happening?

I heard it's ear cells dying (?), and tha I'll no longer be able to hear that frequency anymore. Is this true?

Well it shouldn't cause any permanent damage as long as you don't do it all the time. Other than that I know nothing.

Although, what the hell are you doing able to type after a gig? You should be comatose by now. :/

Couldn't drink a lot as I've got work early in the morning. Had one pint but that's it :(

OH and sorry. Been singing texts with 'R' recently.

Stop being stupid and acting hard by pretending the tunes are not too loud!!

Its so silly seeing people at gigs and things who stand right by the speakers when you know that every second is damaging their hearing.

Be sensible from now on and avoid the loud noises, you DO NOT EVER want tinnitus (google it) as it can be torture for some people.

Christ, take care of your ears dude, you only have two... well you may only have one after some sort of farming accident, but im assuming you have two!

Isn't it something to do with the vibrations given off by loud sounds damaging the tiny hairs in your ears that pick up the sound? If they break off because of that, you get tinnitus.

I can't say about after hearing loud noises, but I do remember reading that when you randomly get the ringing noise in your ear, it's actually just your brain trying to fix the ability to hear a frequency or something, but you're not supposed to hear it, just that your brain is failing at making you not hear it while it's doing it's business :P.

There are new methods that involve training the brain to tune it out by sort of doing a brain reboot, but its early early stages.

Whats the point in all that when you can protect your hearing right now?

Once those hairs are damaged, thats it. Irrepairable currently.

Torture? I'm scared. I have it a bit. What do you mean?

Well, she didn't really say she was standing right next to the speakers did she?

You can easily get ringing ears even standing at the back of some places...

I'm concerned I play music in the car too loud for long periods of commuting to drown out road noise and that it's caused my tinitus. It has to be that as that's my main music exposure day to day. :( My Dad has it bad and I think mine will get worse. It can drive me a bit mad at night trying to get to sleep sometimes. :( Hmm.
