Ringing up premium numbers on a contract?

im very sorry, didnt mean to cause offence. Why does a hospital have a premium line though?

None taken ;) Its one of those phones that you order in a room and it costs 50pence a min to ring, I just dont see why the nhs is doing so badly when they are making this much money on phonecalls.

the NHS don't run the patientline phones so you can't blame them, they get nothing from the incoming calls. In fact patientline and their competitor (cant remember the name) are under investigation by ofcom for ripping people off. I would imagine there is a payphone on the ward, which you could call FOC, of course this is assuming your nana is in a fit state to be leaving her bed.

Can I ring up premium numbers on my o2 contract at no cost?

Sorry to hear of you nan. But what makes you think you can ring a premium number from a phone for free? You cant dial a prem rate no from any line for free??

And yes the phones are a rip off, i had a seriously ill friend in hospital a while back and that was the only way i could check up on him. Also when you ring they have loads of poxy talking before you can do what you want.

Are you allowed mobiles in any area of the hospital?

You could give her an old phone you have lying around and put a PAYG sim card in it and ring that.

Patientline is stupid though. Was front page news here the other day as an old couple, both in hospital called eachothers ward and had a massive phone bill :(

When my dad was in hospital everyone else in the same ward had mobiles with them to ring home, dont see why you couldnt give an old phone to your nana with a payg sim card in it

Because im on a contract thats why I asked.

Why would you think your contract would give you free calls  - cant think of any normal/business mobile/landline contract that gives FREE premium rate calls - youd just be put out of business with such an offer...

No probs - I would assume as a generalisation that no business-type numbers (08x or 09x) are included in your contract especially as its a normal personal contract...

What phone numbers are not included in my call bundle?

Premium rate numbers, International and Roaming calls, and numbers starting 0906, 0845, and 0870 are not included in your call bundle
