looking at a rio carbon 5gb, as they can be got for about £80 or less these days.

anybody had one?

i've not had an mp3 player before so i have a few questions, well, one really. the reviews say that you can't browse and play folders, but it will play them based on the mp3tag - i've been ripping my cd's using media player so it names all the tracks correctly - does this mean they have been tagged and that if i simply move the mp3 folders to the rio it will recognise and play, and i will be able to browse the tracks/albums (as thats what i would want to do)?

thanks a lot

It is a nice player and my mate uses one at work.
Be aware that just like an IPOD you need to correctly TAG all your files or else they will go all over the place.

cheers - i've ordered it and tagged the mp's i've ripped - now begins the arduous task of ripping all my other hundreds of cd's ;(

Have one of these - excellent sound quality thru decent headphones - and brilliant battery life.

Sadly mine does have a habbit of restarting itself every now and again - oh and takes an age to start up. Maybe this is due to some badly tagged files though - not going through my collection to amend this any time soon though!

just got mine today and i like it - nice and easy to setup and get music on there.

the headphones are pretty crap, and i tested my sennheiserHD600's on it and it sounds pretty good, so its certainly capable of sounding good - i'll probably get some of those new cx300's people are talking about.

I've still got mine, it's a decent player just don't drop it! I took it to the gym and it fell on the floor, scroll wheel down. Now the wheel doesn't do anything :(

Ive had a Carbon for nearly a year, mind you just recently bought a second as I broke the scroll wheel by dropping it, so given my first to my sister. So good I bought two of them :D

Anyway you may also be interested in a recent firmware release allowing OTG playlisting and other stuff. It can be found here

with more info found here

I also found if you reconnect the charger when it says its fully charged, it'll continue to charge for longer. the result a longer battery life!

To go with it I bought a Silicone case too, kept it free from scratches so far, we'll see if its a good purchase when I drop the Carbon again
