Could anyone who has one or has used one give me your experiences and thoughts on this camera as Im considering this or the Canon G16,the canon more for being good at most things but the Gr from what I've read has really great image quality albeit with no zoom although I've read that a cropped option allows I think 35 and 40 something equivalent shots.

I know ultimately i have to make a decision from these 2,Im had a G15 some time back and really liked it and only got rid because at the time I had the X100s and a canon 600d but I have since parted with them and I did have a canon G1x which image wise was very good but a bit bulky,so af and poor macro .

so basically its about peoples experiences with the GR id like to hear
thanks

Brilliant camera if you can gel with the 28mm FOV. Sharp lens. Ergonomics and menu system are perfect. Very customisable. The sensor works really nicely for black and white as well. I carry it with me everywhere:

Took delivery of one a few days ago. Lovely little camera. Just waiting to get out and about with it, been pressing all the buttons and reading the manual. It is tiny and will easily fit in a pocket.

The Ricoh GR series of cameras are legendary - especially when it comes to street photography.

Build quality is excellent. Very light, but very sturdy.

Crop modes are 35mm or 47mm.

Has the following modes on the Mode dial

Auto Shooting - everything set automatically for you
P - Program Shift where you can choose from a combination of aperture and shutter speed
Av - Aperture Priority Mode
TV - Shutter Priority Mode
TAv - (this is a nice one) - you set the shutter speed and aperture and the Camera adjusts the ISO.
M - Manually set aperture and shutter
Movies - well it's a movie mode isn't it!
My1/MY2/MY3 - you can set these to whatever settings you want.

Biggest advantage over the Canon G16 is that this is an APS-c sensor.

You can get an optical viewfinder and an add on 21mm wide angle lens, but these are fairly expensive, but you would end up with a camera that can take 21mm, 28mm, 35mm and 47mm pictures.

It has a very good interval shooting mode. In multiple exposure mode it can shoot up to 5 shots in a row and then merge them together.

It can merge a series of continuous images taken at fixed intervals in such a way that the bright areas remain - useful for star trails.

It also has a really useful Autofocus mode called Snap Mode, where you preset the focus distance from you and the camera will automatically snap to that distance when the shutter is pressed, irrespective of what is in between you and your subject.

Has a built in ND filter.

Sensor doesn't have an AA filter in front of it for maximum detail.

Takes JPEG or DNG Raw - you can process the RAW files in camera if you want to as well.

Couple of reviews

Oh you might see in the above reviews that the AF isn't the quickest - bear in mind they've not long released V4.00 firmware where you can set the AF speed from Normal to High Speed. I've never seen so many customisation features on a Digital camera like it.

I've got one as well although I don't use it as much as I should. If you can work with the 28mm 2.8 lens then it absolutely delivers for stills. Bottom line, it has great ergonomics and a wide feature set, fantastic IQ and fits in your pocket.

I don't know why you'd consider the G16 when cameras like the RX100 or LX100 are out now. The sensor in the G16 is tiny compared to either of those two.
