So, it seems that my trusty 5820k won't be supported by Windows 11.

Anyone know if this is a definite, or there may be workaround for the TPM stuff?

Hopefully it'll work then. For various reasons I'll want to be on 11 soon after launch.

Tbh the 5820k is getting to a point now where even low end modern CPUs are a decent upgrade....although I would like to stick it out to DDR5 and the next AMD platform and alder lake at least to see the options....and wait for the silicon supply to ease a bit

The 11400f is definitely a good upgrade over a stock 5820k, but not sure how it stacks up to an average overclock like 4.2ghz. Haven't looked tbh....might get me wanting to upgrade sooner :P

VS my 1650 V2 @ 4.4GHz the 11400F gets a multi-thread score of 4256 against my 3388 and single thread 544 against my 451 with CPU-z's benchmark. The gains in things like games are also about that at 1080p.

Definitely getting time for an upgrade....but it does seem there will be ways to use W11 on a 5820k, so I'll happily wait for Alder Lake and Zen 4.

GPU is still bottlenecking my system, and I can't be arsed with trying to upgrade it.

Has anyone managed to get W11 to install on a 5820k?

Tried the registry key thing, which worked to get it installed on my Surface Laptop 1 (without TPM 2.0)....but on my 5820k it just moans about TPM and refuses....

Finally got round to trying a clean install. Works fine. Start setup, press shift+F10 to open console and run regedit, add the BypassTPMCheck and BypassRAMCheck DWORDs to HKLM/SYSTEM/Setup/LabConfig and set both to 1. Continue install.

Exactly the same here, literally just ordered a 12700k build moving on from a 5820k @ 4.6ghz.

Still works absolutely fine but I'd like a higher minimum FPS as I game on a high hz 1080p monitor.

The 5820k @ 4.2 has been running things just fine, Alder Lake 12600/12700 are definitely the first new CPUs that have actually got me thinking about an upgrade. Now I've got win11 running, I think it'll do me for another year.

Plot twist : I started getting more and more frequent lockups on Win11. Gave up in the end and went back to 10.

Probably related to the hot garbage that is the USB controller on the Asus X99A USB 3.1.

Yeah, I gave the same board to my brother and warned him not to install the optional Asmedia driver in Windows update. It would always BSOD for me and then required a system restore.

Always had problems with the USB on this board. It won't boot half the time with certain USB peripherals connected...known issue they never fixed.

Well, I think it's finally time to upgrade the trusty 5820k. It's just a bit embarrassing now that my work laptop is twice the speed of my desktop (and some), and it really doesn't have the grunt to power my 5120x1440 display anymore.

I have two shopping carts

1x Intel 13500, Z790 board, 32Gb DDR5, 2 TB NVMe

1x AMD 7900 (non-X), B650 board, 32gb DDR5, 2TB NVMe

Can't decide which route to go. Bearing in mind I have never upgraded the CPU in my board, don't care about platform life. I've kept this X99 system for 8 odd years, and will keep this one a similar time.

I don't need bleeding edge performance and value efficiency, easier cooling. I spend as much time coding as gaming, so productivity is important.

AMD platform is more spendy by £100+ and a mid range board, whereas Intel gets me top of the line board and 4x m.2.....

Help me ocuk

Gone for the 7900, I think it'll be the best option for the long run, 12 beefy cores, nice and cool and efficient.

Says something about how good the 5820k was that it's lasted this long. I'm sure someone will get some good use out of it still when I put on MM.

Which 650 board did you go for?
MSI B650-P. Not much to say really. First time I think in my 30-odd years of building PCs that everything just powered up and worked perfectly first time! I need to tweak the fan settings a bit as it's a bit more aggressive that my old board, but no complaints.

Night and day difference doing unreal engine compiles, combined with a new 2tb SSD, fairly chews through it.
