RIP Chris Kyle

Not just me who thinks he's a bit of a nutter then. :p

Well he called me a sad little boy who needs to get a life. Just for calling him out in the Wonders Of Life Thread. Go have a read of the last couple of pages, your opinion will be reinforced somewhat :D

Wonder how many with the opinion of its bad to glorify people who fight wars sit on their games consoles and pcs playing first person shooters where the object is to kill as many people as possible? Yes its only a game but its glorifying the horrors of war more than commemorating the life of a soldier. I'm sure theyres more than a few hypocrites posting :)

Now I just think he's trolling. He barely writes a sentence and it's always inflammatory. Heh, boring.

Probably a returnee of some description.

This is an interesting point, but I fear it opens up a further can of worms. There are two answers from my point of view:

1. They don't see the games as anything approaching reality. So, no matter the similarities they won't draw correlations between the two.

2. They do draw correlations, yet have a slightly hypocritical view based on what they want to believe is true.

I'm sure there are more explanations, but I've just drank an entire bottle of boost so I'm a bit hyper :D

Hence why I've reported him. Discussions about religion and morality are mostly ruined by his input.

What?!

It's really not difficult to understand where he is coming from in this regard :)

He is saying that War simulation games like Warfighter/COD/MW2 and so on could be construed as glorification of the subject matter, to some degree he is right if we use the same contextual basis as Jason2 and JSmoke. Clearly a game is just a game, whereas War is very real, but then for most people a soldier is no more a murderer nor is marking the passing of a Soldier no more a glorification of war than the Gamer playing Warfighter on his, or indeed, her PC.

If people such as Jason2 want to stand in personal judgement of what people like Chris Kyle and others have done then let them, I for one could not care less what they think or the ignorance they convey in making such judgements.

Disagree with the War by all means, but judging those tasked to fight on the ground personally is not really very helpful or necessary.

Yes it is. He's saying a video game is glorifying war. Because i play them this makes me a hyprocrite and most likely in his eyes invalidates my opinion that soldiers such as Chris Kyle are not heroes.

Anyway obviously that opinion is not thought of highly around these parts.

I agree totally.

Well, he does have a point to be honest.

I doubt Chris Kyle thought himself a hero either....most Soldiers don't, so don't beat yourself up about it. :)

Besides, I wasn't saying, and neither are quite a few of the posters with similar views, that he was a hero. I was just stating that it's incredibly disrespectful to be slinging mud at him for doing his job. Especially since he is dead.

Well I don't think it is ignorant to judge them on their life choices. They agree to do a job that may require killing and carrying out orders without question at times.

And judging them and criticising them is important, they are not exempt from criticism because they are just doing their job. Everyone has personal responsibility for their individual actions, whether a government sends them to war or whatever.

Each part of the structure from government to public who want to buy into government propaganda putting troops and armed forces on a pedestal should be corrected at all times possible if attitudes and policies are to change.

the point I'm trying to make is with war, its horrific regardless of whether you think the guy should be honoured or not. First person shooters are making war look 'fun' for your entertainment. This is the furthest from the truth. As castiel said soldiers dont see themselves as heroes. they're doing the job they've signed up to do. In all jobs regardless of what it is, if you're good at it you're rewarded for your efforts (or at least you should be)

Pol Pots men were just doing their job too, so were hitlers soldiers, do they deserve respect now since most of them are dead. Shall we not criticise their actions since they have passed?

If you honestly cannot see the difference, then there is no point discussing this further.

I personally wouldn't insult a lot of dead Nazis as plenty of them were only doing what they were ordered to and weren't happy about it. It's the leaders and people who found pleasure in the suffering of others who should be regarded as the true evil.

Think about pawns in chess. They are there to take damage and die. This is what a lot of soldiers are. They may not be happy about their orders, but they HAVE to follow them. Insulting them is just plain disrespectful.
