He did well though, a lot of those guys were executed. He escaped that and lived till 99. One of life’s true survivors.

Fascinating story, the Great Escape. I think 600 people were involved in the building of the 3 tunnels in the concentration camp. 2 of the tunnels were discovered by German guards and sealed back up. On the night of the escape, I think only about 100 out of the 600 got through the undiscovered/remaining tunnel before the alarm was raised. The vast majority were recaptured to serve extra time or to be shot and only 3 out of the 100/600-odd actually escaped for good.
