I don't know why I'm posting this, I guess I just need to vent and create at least some memorial somewhere I frequent..
About 2 weeks ago one of our two family dogs started to limp and basically become very lethargic. Thinking she'd done something to her back or hip(s) as shes always playing with toys and jumping about we took to the vets. They'd told us to keep her rested. This morning I was woken by a phone call from my mother, crying telling me that Gypsy had gotten worse and has been in the vets last night and this morning. As I work part time in our family business I arrived at work mid-day to find my step father upset and rushing out to leave me in charge whilst he went home to talk to my mother.
My mother then phones the shop and tells me to lock and come home as Gypsy was being put to sleep.
The vet's did blood tests last night and discovered toxins in her blood and her kidneys were shutting down, flushing them out suspecting poison they did a scan this morning to find out that she actually only had one kidney from birth and that was abnormal. It was inevetable she was going to die young. Actually reaching the age of 4 with just one tiny little kidney is a testiment to the strength, character and spirit our girl had.. Always a fighter, always standing strong.
It chokes me even more as she stared right at me, as the needle went in and I was her final image. We named her Gypsy because we found her wondering the streets as a tiny little puppy, discovering later she was doing so because the breeder she came from couldn't sell her so chucked her out. She was living in random places wherever she could find. I'd like to think we gave her a good life and a good home as short as it was.
Will always love you girl. Rest in peace.
