I'm sure many of you have seen this, didn't expect it to happen to me but did this morning!

Would attach a pic but can't until I get home. Is this sort of damage covered by warranty? Only had the Mac since September last year.

Accidental/cosmetic damage, isnt covered by applecare or warranty unfortunately.
Im intrigued about this 'rip in plastic by touchpad' are you talking about the touchpad on macbook/pro. I dont think ive heard of this. needs pics. :)

It's ordinary MacBook, pictures show what I mean -

There was a thread about this before.

Personally i think it's because the magnets are too strong when closing so it snaps to the plastic making it break away.

I wondered if this was the case, although they are an effective way of keeping it closed.

Finally did something about this and took it to the nearest Apple dealer (was about a mile away!) and they did it all under warranty.

Great job, nice new smell to it and it's all clean too :)

Sorry to revive the old thread lol

My replacement is now showing signs of the problem again, it hasn't cracked yet but there are dark lines where the screen bumpers sit. It's coming up to 22 months old so going off the first one which lasted just over 11 months and my girlfriends which failed on the 11th month I have about a month left before it cracks if the problem still exists
.

Make it crack?!

I checked my warranty on the Apple website and it said I was covered until 2010 (bought Sept 2007) which I thought was bizarre but pleased :)
