Louis Gossett Jr has died. He was 87. Most famous for his absolutely superb role as the tough Sgt Foley in Officer and a gentleman, a role that saw him become the first black man to win a best supporting actor Oscar. A very long career starting in the late 50’s and still going when he passed. Had a good innings, but I suppose it comes to us all in the end.

I knew I knew who he was and had seen him in  something, but had to check his filmography.

It was Midnight Sting / Diggstown that I remember him in. By no means a great movie, but one I greatly enjoy.

Not a bad age, 87.

I will always remember him as Gunnery Sgt. Emil Foley from An Officer and a Gentleman, what a great a great performance.

RIP

I think the first time I saw him was in Jaws 3D when I was a kid. I thought this guy would be massive :) He certainly stood out amongst that cast.
