RIP Michael Collins

At one point, the loneliest man in existance. Going round the dark side of the moon with no radio contact with NASA or the Lunar Lander. Ooof.

*doffs hat*

I make no apology for being old and sentimental. I was 6 when they landed, and Dad woke me early to watch the landing in B&W. I can't look at the Moon without remembering that night. I know those three were only the tip of an amazing and mostly anonymous technological spear, but achievements like that inspire generations and lift us out of the mire of bickering humanity we often seem to be.

RIP Michael Collins

Three reached for the stars
Two touched The Moon
One made sure of
Return, not maroon

Armstrong first footing
Aldrin close second
Collins in orbit as
Destiny beckoned

Three became two
Now two become one
But we'll never forget
The great things you've done!

RIP Mr Michael Collins. Humble enough to leave NASA when he likely would have had the opportunity to command another mission and walk on the moon.

The man who would have had to come back from the Moon himself if the other two had been stuck on the surface. Deserves his name to be more well known than it is when it comes to Apollo 11 - RIP.

A very intelligent, charming and humble guy. Their achievement looks even more incredible now I think. RIP.

Some chap.
Can’t imagine what it would have been like to sit yourself in silence knowing that whole rest of the world was watching your colleagues and you could even see it at the time either.

Nice, you come up with that? :)

At this rate there will be no one left alive that has walked on the moon before anyone does again

remaining 4 astronauts are in their 80's - youngest will be 88 by the time of Artemis 3 (if it goes ahead on time)

(sorry not relevant to Collins but just made me look it up and realise)

RIP Michael Collins

Sad times. I would have failed to name this gent in a quiz.

However, if he had ditched the other two on the moon and flown off claiming 'space dementia', I would have known him better.

RIP Sir

To think of the computing power they had then, and they still were able to get to the moon and back.

To this day it blows my mind to think of what was involved to enable that to occur.

A very brave man.

The mind-wizardry was outstanding. If it was left to me, I would have said it's not possible.
