First man to score a competitive goal at Wembley has died aged 27:

This has hit me as I recently have suffered a rhythm disturbance which is what would have killed Mitchell.

However, my heart luckily reset itself whereas Mitchell's sadly didn't. I now have an ICD fitted (like Muamba) to make sure it is dealt with quickly. Such a shame as one of these may have saved Mitchell's life.

This condition also killed Marc Vivien-Foe.

Very sad news, RIP. Why didn't he have an ICD fitted? Or do they not always work?

I really don't know. The risk of sudden death is actually pretty low. In his condition it's 1% as opposed to 0.01% in healthy adults. That's still a significant difference. Maybe he wasn't considered high risk as he was still playing till recently.

I hope there's some more effective method of screening people in the future. For each case they know about there must be many more which simply don't get detected. Seems like something that is totally avoidable :(

I wonder how expensive it is to test for. It's the only reason I can think of that it hasn't been built into medicals.

RIP Mitchell.
