RIP Terry venables

I was 8 during Euro 96 but remember it so well and still one of my favourite England teams. My overwhelming memory of him though is getting away with using the C word in the studio after the ‘99 Champions League final.

Euro 96 was my first and ironically my fondest tournament. I would have been 9 at the time. We were on a school trip to York for the week and we all sat around a TV with the teachers watching the semi final in our dorm where we were staying. The atmosphere at the time was just fantastic. Especially experiencing the semi final with all your class mates :)

I always wondered what might have happened if he had stayed after the tournament and took us to France 98.

I am a bit surprised he had died at only 80. He seemed a really fit person when I saw him last.

RIP El Tel. As others have said, Euro 96 was my favourite tournament and an amazing year. Shearer, Gazza, Dentist Chairs, Christmas Tree Formations, Oasis, Stella, Baggy Jeans, Adidas Gazelles.

I was listening to John Gregory on a podcast the other month who said he was the best coach he has ever come across in the game. Knew how to make a few quid too ;)
Got QPR to a cup final, then promotion, then to a top 6 finish all in three years. Left for Barcelona and won the league with them for the first time in ten years. Barca going without a league title for 10 years would seem unthinkable now.
