RIP: Thor and Scotty!

People yes, animals sorry but no, I value peoples lives more, flame me if you want but each to their own views.

I agree but for different reasons. These aren't human soldiers.

These dogs are essentially trained killers, but with almost no will of their own so I can't really respect their "bravey" like a human soldier.

Apparently if on the field and the handler gets shot the group stops on the enemy and goes for the dog lol. They're also put down when they're too old to serve, no other option on that. Which all makes the fact they're used more now against a dog hating people..

All animals are killers, the dogs are no more or less 'trained killers' than the men running around with bombs and guns.

Although I don't see what percieved free will has got to do with a the actions the animal took and how we can percieve it. Ok, bravery is obviously personification although I can't really see how else you could relate to him and his fight.

Ie, at what point with shots one two or three did the animal think I HAVE NO FREE WILL so I can't fall over must keep going? It was surely free will that made his teeth stay in when getting hacked at? Just like its the free will of men who are wounded to keep on fighting, even in the face or severe injury or death. Animals are not stupid.

Its probably just me, but I don't find it hard at all to find things in common and the same emotions in animals, love, fear scaredness etc..

Anyway it was a rugged dog that done its job. An' i'll leave it at that! :p

Such a shame to hear that those dogs died out there, soldiers are there by choice, dog's aren't.

They do, however, sound kick ass.

RIP :(

RIP :(

you could argue that they wouldnt exist if there wasnt a need for them though. they will be bred for the job within the army

RIP thor and scotty.

Why German Shepperds?

Although they are big strong dogs why not use something like a Douge De bordeaux or a Rottweiler?

Down here we use Black Labradors as well, i think to sniff out mine and IEDs

Well, there definately is a need for them, I think they are pretty integral to the army now, but what I'm saying is that they can't choose, they are chosen.

Are you saying there's no difference between the freewill of a soldier who volunteers for the armed forces verses a dog trained to only act in one way since birth?

Also there's a massive difference between these animals and the domestic breeds we have running around.

:/

Poor dogs, I wish the police and military would stop putting poor animals in danger, as an animal owner you have a responsibility to protect it, not put it in harms way.

Perhaps you didn't notice but the German Shepherd is a domestic dog. The military don't use special breeds or anything.
