RIP Tom Walkinshaw

Group A and Group C Jags were where he really made his name but I remember him more for the Rover Vitesse's he ran in the British Saloon Car Championship. When the Rover first arrived it was off the pace and the Capri's used to hand them their arse but then one day at Silverstone the Vitesse arrived and I remeber my dad and I sitting in the stands with our mouths open as the Vitesse was on a different page to the Capri's, which was the case pretty much for the rest of the season. The Vitesse sounded different to the previous SD1 V8, much more high pitched and we were convinced they were cheating! Within 6 months though my dad had sold his 2.8 Capri and bought a new SD1 Vitesse! :D Speaking with Tim Harvey after reading his article in Evo was interesting too. He turned up to TWR once to get a new engine for his Rover Vitesse. Sure they said, 3.5, 3.9, 4.2 or 4.5L? As the Rover was of course a 3.5 perhaps our concerns about their legality was solid :)

Epic stuff and the Group C Jags were brilliant...........though I did prefer the Sauber Mercs in the end. RIP TW.
