STATEMENT ISSUED ON BEHALF LOUGHSHINNY MOTORCYCLE SUPPORTERS CLUB LTD

Issued at approximately 17:15pm on 7th July 2018.

"The Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club, organisers of the Skerries 100, deeply regrets to announce that competitor William Dunlop of Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, has passed away following injuries received in a tragic accident that occurred during practise which took place today 7th July 2018.

The Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club extends their heartfelt sympathy to William Dunlop's family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very sad time."

Damn. His wife is pregnant too.

I remember going to a race meet with a friend who raced at Aghadowey (or was it Bishopscourt? My memory is failing me) about 20 years ago. His dad’s van was parked next to us in the paddock and in between races he and Michael and a few other kids including me all had a competition to see who could ride their rigged BMX the furthest. It had a gear in the headstock which made the wheel turn the opposite direction to the bars. Was bloody hard but a good laugh, and I’ll always remember what a down-to-earth group they were.
