Hi Guys,

The Raijintek Pallas turned up for my SFF xeon build, but sadly it won't clear the first DDR slot with the Ripjaw in.

I want to use this cooler, and I am not going to buy more ram, so I have a few options:

a) Cut the top of the heat spreader down (3-5mm should be plenty off of the top 'fins')

b) Remove the heat spreader and replace with a lower profile one

C) Remove the heat spreader totally and just leave it

What would you do?

TBH the RAM is probably worth like 15-20 a stick so it's not exactly going to be an issue modifying it (I doubt anyone would want to buy them later if I changed the system but hey).

Also really does it need the heat spreader and is it worth buying another?

Cheers!

All good quickly decided to take matters into my own had, remembered I had some thermal take Pc133 spreaders out of a really old build, they are the perfect size.

Heated up the ripjaws and removed the original heat spreader and just going to sit these on it

C.

Unless you're going to run with a dangerously high voltage then heatspreaders are a hangover from a bygone era, they exist mainly for marketing purposes nowadays.

Thanks for that, I did wonder tbh, I have never seen RAM get hot other than if a system has poor airflow and the actual heat in the machine is heating up the RAM!
